Giving 20,000 Shoes To Kids In Africa
About Haoran(Jeff)
I was born in Shanghai, China, and moved to the United States in 2014 at the age of six with my parents and younger sister. Since then, I have been living in the Greater Boston area, Massachusetts.
I am an enthusiastic and dedicated student at Algonquin Regional High School, actively participating in various extracurricular activities and leadership roles. As a proud member of the Class of 2026, I strive to excel both academically and personally. My commitment to sports is demonstrated through my involvement in varsity cross country and track. These experiences have taught me the value of perseverance, teamwork, and discipline.
My love for science, particularly chemistry and biology, fuels my curiosity about the natural world and its complexities. I am also deeply interested in exploring and understanding earth environments, aiming to contribute to advancements in these fields.
I am passionate about self-improvement and constantly seek ways to enhance my knowledge and skills. This drive motivates me to take on new challenges and strive for excellence in everything I do.
Why It Matters
Gently Used Shoes for Good
In sub-Saharan Africa, an estimated 20 million children walk without shoes, enduring scorching temperatures up to 100 degrees. For these children and adults, a simple walk to school, home, or work can be grueling without proper footwear.
Haoran (Jeff) Tan, a rising junior ( the class of 2026) at Algonquin Regional High School in Massachusetts, USA, and a passionate Cross Country and track athlete, has been deeply moved by this issue. His love for running has made him think about the countless children in Africa and other impoverished regions who lack basic shoes to walk or run safely in their daily lives.Jeff is launching a program called "Used Shoes for Good" to help provide these children with the footwear they need for a basic standard of living. He is eager to collaborate with his local community to collect gently used shoes and donate them to charity, aiming to make a positive impact on the world. Join Jeff in this mission to bring comfort and protection to children who need it most.
How It Works
Gently Used Shoes for Good
I am truly grateful for your support in helping children who need shoes for their basic needs. Your generosity means the world to them. I am collecting all types of sports shoes, including running shoes, tennis shoes, basketball shoes, and even everyday walking shoes.I am partnering with local communities such as sports clubs, fitness centers, schools, and local towns. Once the shoes are collected, I will personally categorize, label, and box them before donating them to charities that work directly to deliver the shoes to the children who need them.
